CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM
Restoring Transparency & Integrity in Oxnard Campaign Financing
Currently, there are no campaign finance laws in Oxnard and this allows corporations, individuals, and special interests to influence local politicians with their hefty campaign contributions.
While reforms are needed to address these problems, I will not wait to act until the campaign finance laws catch up to what’s right. We need to establish campaign contributions limits for individuals, businesses, and Political Action Committees. Also, establishing a voluntary campaign expenditure limit for candidates ensures that candidates aren't "buying" elections. I will work with staff and fellow council members to close any potential loopholes in the rules.
If we are going to change the culture of Oxnard politics, we need to set a standard of genuine accountability from the very beginning.
Limit contributions from individuals, PACs, and businesses.
Establish a voluntary campaign expenditure limit.
Push for a ban on out-of-state contributions.
